چکیده

The effects of probiotics, yucca extract, monensin and L-cysteine on rumen methanogenesis were determined by in vitro incubation using mixed bovine rumen microorganisms with ground Bermuda grass hay as a substrate. Two forms of probiotics, yucca extract, monensin and L-cysteine were tested during 24 hour anaerobic incubations. Methane and carbon dioxide production and fermentation characteristics were compared among treatments. Both probiotics promoted the fermentation and enhanced methanogenesis. Yucca extract and L-cysteine tended to suppress methane production. However, no remarkable changes in methane production and other fermentation characteristics were observed over 24 hours incubation.

Effects of Monensin a N D a M I C L O R a L on Rumen F E R M E N T a T I O N 1

Fermentative adjustments produced by monensin and amicloral and by combinations of monensin plus amicloral were investigated in vitro. Monensin increased (P<.05) production of propionate, usually decreased production of acetate and butyrate and partially reduced methanogenesis, but no accumulation of. gaseous hydrogen was observed. Amicloral not only increased production of propionate (P<.05), ...

Monensin and dichloroacetamide influences on methane and volatile Fatty Acid production by rumen bacteria in vitro.

The effect of monensin (0 or 33 mug/g of diet) upon rumen fermentation in the presence and absence of methanogenesis was determined in vitro by using mixed rumen organisms continuously cultured for 17 days. Methane was inhibited by dichloroacetamide (DCA; 32 mg/day) or by a pH of 5.1. Monensin effected a significant decrease in the ratio of acetic to propionic acid in the presence or absence of...

Effect of monensin on rumen metabolism in vitro.

The effect of Monensin (Rumensin, Eli Lilly & Co.) in incubations with mixed rumen microorganisms metabolizing carbohydrate or protein substrates was investigated. Monensin partly inhibited methanogenesis and increased propionate production, although the effect was not always statistically significant. Incubations with substrates specific for methane bacteria suggest that inhibition of methanog...

Effects of the antibiotic monensin and an inhibitor of methanogenesis on in vitro continuous rumen fermentations.

1. The effects of a methane inhibitor, ICI 111075, and a propionate enhancer, monensin, were studied using in vitro continuous fermenters. 2. Both compounds increased the yield of substrate energy, carbon and hydrogen in volatile fatty acids (VFA). This was mainly due to an increase in the molar proportion of propionic acid. 3. Improved yields of VFA were accompanied by reductions in methane pr...

Effects of monensin, pyromellitic diimide and 2-bromoethanesulfonic acid on rumen fermentation in vitro.

The effects of monensin, 2-bromoethanesulfonic acid (2-BES) and pyromellitic diimide (diimide) on gas and volatile fatty acid (VFA) production by the rumen microbiota were compared in mixed culture. Oat hay, a hay-concentrate mixture (48% hay, 43% concentrate) and a soluble carbohydrate mixture were used as substrates for microbial growth. The highest concentrations of diimide (10 ppm) and 2-BE...
